ViaSat [Nasdaq: VSAT], a Carlsbad, Calif.-based VSAT equipment provider, has signed a $33 million contract to provide broadband equipment and ground systems to WildBlue Communications. With a planned launch in the second half of 2004, WildBlue’s consumer-oriented satellite broadband service will be targeted at an estimated 30 million homes and offices that do not have other broadband options. The equipment being supplied includes a ViaSat Ka-band satellite modem and outdoor Ka-band transceiver electronics from ViaSat subsidiary US Monolithics. Deliveries are scheduled to begin this quarter.
