Belgacom will use SkyStream Networks‘ Mediaplex 20 video services router to deliver Internet and streaming services via satellite to its business customers, especially Internet service providers.

Belgacom is a Belgian provider of telecom and satellite transmission services for professional broadcast, enterprise multimedia and Internet backbone satellite access. It sells its “Internet Over Satellite” service to service providers and corporate users in Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East. “To expand our Internet Over Satellite platform, we needed a powerful tool capable of supporting our existing customer base and to integrate services such as video and standard video-streaming over IP,” said Jean-Pierre De Muyt, Belgacom’s director of international product management.

SkyStream’s Mediaplex provides high-speed video aggregation and routing as well as IP encapsulation capabilities within its platform, without requiring re-cabling or equipment changes to the network.
