ST Engineering iDirect will provide the ground network for the MB Sat-1 sovereign microGEO satellite built by Astranis under a new deal with MBSat, part of Mohammed Al Barwani Group.

ST Engineering iDirect said it will provide satellite gateway and network operations across Oman and the Middle East using its Intuition software-defined ground segment solution. The solution includes dynamic resource allocation, integrating with existing and future systems, and Ka-band gateway infrastructure.

MB Group ordered the MicroGEO satellite from Astranis early this year to expand satellite broadband capacity in key markets in the Middle East and to provide sovereign control for Oman. It is set to launch on the Astranis Block 3 mission in 2027.

“We are providing MBSat with a flexible, software-defined ground platform that integrates with its existing operational environment,” said Sridhar Kuppanna, Chief Executive Officer, ST Engineering iDirect. “This enables more efficient service deployment and operations today, with the flexibility to scale, introduce new capabilities and evolve as requirements change.”

MB Group leadership detailed its plans for MB Sat-1 during SATShow Week in March, explaining it looks to broker sovereign communications to other corporations and government agencies with a similar need for security and control over their communications.
