Aeromexico is upgrading to Viasat‘s advanced in-flight connectivity (IFC) solution on its Embraer E190 jets to further integrate its fleet with fast Wi-Fi for customers. Installation is underway.
Embraer announced July 11 that so far, six Aeromexico Embraer E190 aircraft are equipped with Viasat’s Amara next-generation IFC solution. Installation is ongoing on a remaining 28 aircraft, for a total of 34 E190s. Viasat Amara, the next generation in-flight connectivity solution selected by Aeromexico, is available for all E-Jets customers worldwide.
Aeromexico previously implemented IFC connectivity for the regional Embraer in 2018.
Wi-Fi will be available across the airline’s E190 aircraft by 2027. Aeromexico noted that it will be the first and only airline in Latin America to offer ad-supported free messaging across its entire network.
“We are upgrading our Aeromexico Connect E190 fleet to deliver exceptional in-flight experiences on our short-haul routes. This means our passengers can stay connected wherever they fly, with the option to purchase internet packages for enhanced connectivity,” Andres Castañeda, chief digital and customer experience officer & EVP, Aeromexico, said in a statement.
Aeromexico is a significant customer for Viasat and has been working with Viasat for almost a decade. In February this year, it announced that it was expanding its relationship with the Mexican airline. Aeromexico has tapped Viasat to retrofit its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet in a 17-aircraft upgrade.
