Intelsat signed a capacity agreement with Sky Perfect JSAT to capacity on its JCSAT-1C high-throughput satellites over Japan and Asia to support in-flight connectivity (IFC). Intelsat and Sky Perfect JSAT have a long-standing partnership including the joining venture satellite Horizons-1.

Intelsat said this capacity will augment Intelsat’s global capacity and allow Intelsat to provide IFC service over Japan for the future.

Intelsat has been improving its position in IFC after acquiring Gogo’s Commercial Aviation business in 2020. Intelsat recently ordered two new satellites from Thales Alenia Space that will cover Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia for mobility services, including aviation, and cellular backhaul, and announced a deal with Gilat Satellite Networks to use its SkyEdge II-c system to expand commercial and business aviation services in Asia.

“As air traffic continues to grow in Japan and Asia, expanding our partnership with Intelsat was a logical solution because of the company’s reputation for delivering reliable, state-of-the-art communications and its forward-looking solutions to support global mobility,” said Teruo Yamashita, group president of Global Business Group at Sky Perfect JSAT.
