The first 200 Gigabit Ethernet redundant Data Roaming interconnection from Telefónica is now ready for service, the company’s wholesale business unit Telefónica International Wholesale Services (TIWS) announced Sept. 18.

TIWS launched its first 200 Gigabit Ethernet interconnection with one of its most traffic-intensive customers, Telefónica España, in August, during the region’s peak traffic months. The new redundant interconnection is based on the link aggregation (LAG) of 100 Gigabit Ethernet interconnections. With the increased adoption of 4G technology, data roaming traffic of European Union operators has tripled year-on-year, according to Telefonica’s International Wholesale Business CEO Juan Carlos Bernal.

“IPX providers like Telefónica have a key role to play to provide mobile operators with the interconnection options they need to meet customer connectivity and experience expectations. We are committed to delivering a high quality experience, not just for our operator customers but also for their customers,” Bernal said in a statement.
