French radio frequency (RF) detection company Unseenlabs has ordered two additional cubesats from smallsat manufacturer GomSpace. GomSpace announced the contract worth 2.2 million euro ($2.5 million) on Wednesday.
The satellites, built on GomSpace’s 8U platform, are targeted for delivery in 2027. With this order, Unseenlabs has ordered 16 cubesats from GomSpace, with previous orders in 2022, 2024, and 2025.
These satellites will expand Unseenlabs’ space-based radio frequency detection constellation, which is dedicated to maritime surveillance, detecting ships that cannot be tracked with traditional automatic identification system (AIS) data.
Unseenlabs has launched 22 satellites, with the most recent satellite launched on a Japanese H3 launcher in June. The company is also preparing to begin launching its Gen 2 satellites to improve its RF signal detection capabilities and expand to multi-domain awareness for sea, land, and space monitoring.
“Continuing to build our infrastructure on the same proven platform greatly benefits Unseenlabs and allows us to reinforce further the persistence of our services,” commented Jonathan Galic, co-founder, president, and CTO of Unseenlabs.
