Viasat awarded Intellian a contract to design and supply Ka-band user terminals for its maritime connectivity solution, the companies announced Tuesday.

Intellian will design new 60 cm and 10cm bespoke user terminals to work with Viasat’s satellite network and the upcoming ViaSat-3 constellation. These terminals will support broadband for superyacht, energy, and commercial customers.

In addition, Intellian will also develop a 100 cm conversion kit for Intellian’s popular NX Series, which will allow the VSAT maritime antenna to connect to Viasat services. Intellian designs satellite terminals to support a number of satellite networks including Inmarsat and Iridium and contracts with Low-Earth Orbit operators OneWeb and Telesat

“This is a great opportunity for Intellian to collaborate with one of the leading global communications companies, combining our individual excellence to form a long-lasting and fruitful relationship. The contract win is yet another tangible example of our placement as a market leader, utilizing our unparalleled engineering and supply chain capabilities to deliver exceptional value to the market,” commented Intellian CEO Eric Sung.

The first ViaSat-3 satellite is set to launch early next year. Viasat recently signed a similar maritime terminal deal with Cobham Satcom.
