Eutelsat has signed a new Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) capacity deal with the U.K. government’s FCDO Services and NSSL Global, after the U.K. recently increased its investment in the operator.

The strategic partnership announced Monday will support a range of critical U.K. government activities including diplomatic missions, policing, resilience, defense and other essential operations. FCDO Services, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, serves as the in-government provider of communications solutions to the U.K. government

Under the agreement, OneWeb capacity will be used to provide high-speed, low latency connectivity for British embassies, high commissions, and consulates. NSSLGlobal will deliver fully managed, end-to-end services for FCDO missions across all sectors. Eutelsat said the OneWeb LEO services and user terminals will support FCDO in hurricane preparedness and response in British territories and in the Caribbean.

“We are proud to support FCDO Services in delivering the secure communications that government teams depend on. Eutelsat OneWeb’s LEO technology is a valuable addition to the solutions we provide, giving government customers even greater resilience and choice, wherever their work takes them,” Sally-anne Ray, Group CEO of NSSLGlobal, said in a statement.

Earlier this month, the U.K. government announced it would join the Eutelsat Group’s capital raise led by the French government with a 90 million euro ($105 million) investment, increasing the capital raise to 1.5 billion euros ($1.8 million)
