RapidEye Signs Central American Distribution Deal

[Satellite Today 02-23-09] RapidEye reached an agreement with Bufete de Ingeniería en Telecomunicaciones y Sistemas (BITS), to be its sole distributor of satellite imagery in Mexico and Central America, RapidEye announced Feb. 20.
    The five RapidEye Earth observation satellite begin operations in early February. The constellation is intended provide agricultural land information products and services such as crop monitoring and mapping, yield prediction, and natural disaster assessment.
    “We are very proud to have BITS as a dynamic business partner, and we have been talking with them for quite some time. RapidEye is happy that we have a common vision for the partnership of our companies,” RapidEye CEO Micheal Prechtel said in a statement.
    "Due to our country’s geographical and meteorological characteristics, we trust RapidEye data will be of vital importance,” Hector Betancourt, CEO of BITS, said in a statement. “We are positive about the capacities of RapidEye’s satellite system and the quality of their satellite imagery and will contribute to the economic growth of RapidEye in our region.”
