[Satellite TODAY 08-23-12] MSS operator Inmarsat increased its demand forecast for mobile satellite communications in Malaysia’s shipping industry after the company was contracted by Malaysian shipping firm MISC to install mobile services on its vessels, the company announced Aug. 23.
Inmarsat will install its XpressLink fully integrated VSAT and FleetBroadband service on all of MISC’s 46 vessels comprising chemical and liquefied natural gas tankers.
Inmarsat President of Maritime Services Frank Coles said the service would enable MISC’s ships to receive unlimited data availability across international oceans. “Malaysia’s shipping industry is maturing in the choice of high-speed satellite services for the crew and business services,” Coles said in a statement. “We expect customers to be more selective in the services they use. They understand the importance of having good communications that can improve savings in operations, improve morale and overall efficiency, which leads to greater cost savings. We see that this demand will continue to grow and we expect MISC to continue to lead.”
