[Satellite TODAY 04-21-11] Eutelsat Communications broadband subsidiary Skylogic has contracted U.K. satellite communications specialist Avonline to sell Eutelsat Ka-Sat broadband services in the United Kingdom, the operator announced April 20.
The contract, valued at up to 5 million euros ($7.3 million), enables Avonline to sell Eutelsat’s next-generation Tooway satellite broadband service and offer download service speeds of up to 10 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 4 Mbps. The service will be targeted to areas with poor or no ADSL and mobile broadband coverage.
“Currently more than one in 10 U.K. households are unable to receive a 2 Mbps broadband connection — the minimum target requirement set by the U.K. government. This deal is great news for small businesses and those who work from home in rural areas. With Tooway, they will now be able to take advantage of broadband services with similar speeds and prices to their urban counterparts,” Avonline Managing Director Mark Wynn said in a statement.
