[Satellite TODAY 12-10-09] Comtech Telecommunications Corp.’s profits fell 58 percent in the first quarter of its 2010 fiscal year to $49.7 million, down from $86.9 million reported in the same quarter of 2009, the company announced Dec. 8.
    Comtech’s sales also dropped across all three of its business segments to $133.8 million, compared to $191.9 in the same period in 2009. The company blamed the losses on a drop in demand for in its commercial business
    Despite the first quarter shortfall, Comtech CEO Fred Kornberg said the company has increased its projections for the remainder of the fiscal year due to increased government business. According to Kornberg, the company expects revenues received from its mobile data communications orders received from the U.S. Army to continue throughout fiscal 2010 and result in revenue increases for each of the year’s remaining quarters.
    "As I look to the remainder of fiscal 2010, I believe we are at a turning point and starting to pick up speed, and that we remain on track to achieve another year of record revenues and significant year-over-year earnings growth," Kornberg said in a statement.
