[Satellite Today 04-10-09] Orbcomm entered into a services agreement with General Electric Asset Intelligence (GEAI) to be the sole provider of satellite, cellular and dual-mode telematics, and machine-to-machine data communications on all subscriber communicators sold or managed by GEAI, Orbcomm announced April 9.
Orbcomm, under a five-year value-added reseller agreement that runs until December 2013, will provide low-earth-orbit satellite-based data communications to GEAI.  The deal is structured for expansion of Orbcomm’s contracted services to include network services for machine-to-machine applications using other satellite, cellular or dual-mode data communications focusing on subscriptions rather than hardware sales.
"The new agreement focuses on subscriber additions as opposed to hardware sales, further embedding Orbcomm into GEAI’s go-to-market strategy. As a result, this allows Orbcomm  to leverage the satellite network and terrestrial reseller agreements we have been establishing," Orbcomm CEO Marc Eisenberg said in a statement.
Orbcomm’s contract builds on a prior distribution agreement between GEAI and Stellar, a manufacturer of Orbcomm network products, signed in October 2006. Financial details of the latest agreement were not disclosed.
