David Hartshorn, secretary general of the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) for two decades, has surprisingly decided to step down. The GVF announced Hartshorn’s shock resignation on April 19. The GVF is now inviting applications for the next secretary general and for an assistant who will support his replacement.

Hartshorn has long been one of the most recognizable and vocal leaders in satellite, and has frequently been of the main people mobilizing the industry as it has looked to maintain vital spectrum at recent International Telecommunications Union (ITU) meetings. After two decades in the job, his will not be easy shoes to fill. Hartshorn is a well-known figure on the speaking circuit, both in terms of moderation and appearing on industry panels.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we would like to express our appreciation for Mr. Hartshorn’s decades of service,” said Arunas Slekys, GVF’s Chairman of the Board. “The industry achievements realized during his tenure have been remarkable… and have set the stage for GVF’s next chapter. We also extend our gratitude to Angie Mar, director of international Programs, who will be pursuing new opportunities after serving for five years with the association.”
