[Via Satellite 11-21-2014] OTE, a telecoms operator in Greece, has selected Eutelsat’s KA-SAT to deliver its new satellite broadband service to homes across Greece. The OTE Satellite Internet Service, aims to deliver download speeds of up to 22 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 6 Mbps. The Greek operator will offer services across the country to users who live in underserved areas.

OTE’s new satellite service is available through OTE Group’s retail stores and requires a small satellite dish and modem, operating without the need for a fixed telephone line. OTE qualified personnel carry out the installation of user equipment. Using the same dish, OTE’s satellite-based Internet service can be bundled with its satellite TV service, which offers more than 80 digital and 25 HD channels. OTE also broadcasts from the Eutelsat 9A satellite, which shares the same orbital position as KA-SAT.
