Eutelsat has signed a deal with MEO, one of Portugal’s biggest telecoms operators to bring LEO services to customers in Portugal. The two companies announced the deal, Sept. 23.
MEO will integrate Eutelsat’s OneWeb LEO services into its connectivity solutions, combining satellite, fiber and 5G technologies, to provide resilient backup connectivity for businesses, public administrations, municipalities and critical infrastructure operators across the country. The agreement builds on a longstanding infrastructure partnership, with MEO hosting Eutelsat’s ground station infrastructure for several years, supporting first its GEO fleet and now the OneWeb LEO constellation. Eutelsat and MEO work closely together to support service continuity and ensure security across both sites.

It is also a step towards building a European connectivity ecosystem that is more resilient, self-sufficient and fit for the future,” Ana Figueiredo, CEO, MEO, said in a statement.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
