[Via Satellite 05-13-2015] Hispasat has signed a long-term agreement with Mexican satellite service provider Spacenet for the distribution of movies and live shows to movie theaters throughout Mexico. Using a transponder on the Amazonas 3 satellite, Hispasat and Spacenet will reach more than 500 movie theaters around the country.

The companies anticipate a wider range of live events will be broadcast using the new platform. Together they can deliver high-bandwidth video formats such as HD, Ultra-HD and 3-D to theaters using a small antenna, independent of geographic limitations. Hispasat and Spacenet will also look to provide these services in other nations.

“The next step is, together with Spacenet, to put these benefits within reach of movie theaters and private citizens in other countries in Latin America,” said Ignacio Sanchis, chief commercial officer at Hispasat.
