[Satellite TODAY 12-20-12] ViaSat will provide a U.S. government customer with broadband airborne satcom services under a valued $52 million one year contract, the company announced Dec. 20.

This is renewal for services established in 2009 using ViaSat ArcLight technology over a managed private network to support military missions for the War on Terror. ViaSat mobile broadband systems are designed to provide media-rich ISR, C2, and other applications with high-speed, beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) communications. Typical operational data rates use Ku- and Ka-band satcom links and range from 1 to 8 Mbps off over 300 government aircraft.
The same terminals can operate on the Yonder global satellite network, providing the network with higher priority regional service overlays with a variety of connectivity and performance options.
