Inmarsat announced June 1 it teamed with Assemble Communications to integrate Inmarsat’s new Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) high-speed mobile communications service into a small lightweight kit used as a “personal hurricane kit.”

The kit will provide constant connection in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster that damages the traditional terrestrial and cellular networks.

The kit comes with all the equipment the customer needs to set it up and launch the communications connection. This includes a satellite terminal, slim-line phone, pre-bundled service for access and a watertight crushproof case for the accompaniments such as the USB, Ethernet and phone cables. The kit will be initially offered online to residents of the Gulf Coast states.
