Geoeye received an additional $13 million in orders from the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) under the Clearview contract, the company announced. The latest orders are in addition to the $36 million awarded to the company in January, bringing the total value of the contract for Geoeye to $49 million in 2006.

Geoeye, created when Orbimage acquired the assets of Space Imaging in January, operates the Ikonos and Orbview-3 high-resolution earth-imaging satellites, which can collect images with a resolution of 1 meter, and is building its next-generation commercial satellite imaging system, Geoeye-1. The new imagery satellite, which will collect imagery with a resolution of 0.41 meters, is slated for launch in early 2007.

The NGA also awarded a similar contract to Digitalglobe, adding $12 million to the company’s Clearview contract, a mechanism which allows the NGA to streamline its purchases of commercial imagery from the two companies.
