ViaSat Inc. will supply satellite communications networking equipment to Datapath Inc. for use in a mobile military communications system, ViaSat announced July 11.

Under the $7 million contract, Carlsbad, Calif.-based ViaSat will supply its Linkway VSAT technology, which allows connections between remote locations without the need for a central hub.

Datapath will incorporate the system in its ET Model 3000 Portable system, a trailer-based satellite telecommunications system designed to provide battlefield communications. The U.S. military uses the system to connection to the Joint Network Node initiative, which uses commercial satellites and Internet technology to supply bandwidth to military users.
