French pay-TV operator Canalsat is looking to become more of a factor in the mobile television space, teaming with French mobile operator SFR to launch a new television channel package for cell phones. The service, which will be available June 29, will enable users with third generation (3G) wireless phones to have access to 17.

The channels will include some of Canalsat’s major theme channels such as CNBC, Comédie, Cuisine TV, L’Equipe TV, Game One, Jetix, Planete and Planete Choc. In July, Canalsat will add additional channels to the cell phone lineup. There will also be a specific 3G channel from Discovery Channel. Subscribers also will have access to Canal+ premium channel’s unscrambled programs.

As with satellite and digital subscriber line delivery, Canalsat via SFR will include the channel mosaic and a program guide. Subscribers can also sign up for alerts to inform them when a program is about to begin.
