Globalstar LLC said it filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission for authority to operate a gateway in Sebring, FL. The gateway, expected to open later this summer, will allow Globalstar to improve service at the fringes of its North American service area.

“We have seen an upswing in demand for Globalstar voice and data services from both commercial and recreational users in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, particularly in the pleasure boating and oil and gas sectors,” Jay Monroe, chairman and CEO of Globalstar LLC said in a prepared statement.
