UK satellite pay-TV operator BSkyB added almost 200,000 subscribers in the second quarter ended Dec. 31, 2004. This was one of the highlights as the operator announced its six month and second quarter results today. The operator now has more than 7.6 million DTH subscribers meaning its target of reaching 8 million by the end of 2005 is now within reach.

The operator has also seen strong growth for its PVR (Personal Video Recorder) service, Sky+. There are now 642,000 households carrying the Sky+ service. This now represents a 8.4 percent penetration of total DTH subscribers. BSkyB also saw an increase in the number of multi-room households (households taking two or more subscriptions). It now has a total of 473,000 multi-room households, which works out as a penetration rate of 6.2 percent.
