The Associated Press reported Jan. 26 that scientists from Mexico and Russia are developing satellite technology for detecting early warning signs for earthquakes. The satellite is expected to be completed in about three years and will be used to detect changes in the concentrations in electrons in the ionosphere possibly indicating pending earthquakes. The satellite would transmit any changes to UNAM, Mexico’s national university.
