Sea Launch is reviewing the safety of an engine used in its Zenit-3SL rocket that is similar to an engine that failed on a Proton rocket launch in late 2002.

Members of the Sea Launch Failure Review Oversight Board have determined that six of the seven corrective actions recommended by the Russian State Commission after the Proton failure either do not apply to the Sea Launch rocket or already are in place. Existing Sea Launch hardware, processes and quality assurance methods thus far seem to be sufficient, the board concluded.
