Intelsat is expanding its partnership with telco Orange to provide cellular backhaul services in French Guiana. Orange will leverage the Intelsat 10-02 satellite to upgrade and expand its existing 2G network and provide 3G/4G services in French Guiana.

The satellite operator said this agreement will allow Orange to extend mobile broadband coverage and connect subscribers across Kaw, Camopi, Grand-Sancti, Papaichton and Maripasoula.

“Through our partnership, Orange will leverage our network sizing and design services to build a consistent business model that is future proof,” said Intelsat Senior Key Account Director, Europe Pablo Catapodis.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the Friday announcement. Orange works with a number of satellite operators, and earlier this week announced a contract expansion with SES for satellite capacity provided by SES Networks’ Skala maritime platform.
