India’s Astrogate Labs is teaming with South Korea-based Spacebeam to demonstrate laser communications, including optical ground stations.
Under the MoU, they plan to bring together the companies’ respective tech in optical communications. Astrogate has developed AstroLink, an optical communication terminals (OCTs) for satellites and Spacebeam has developed the Osong optical ground station (OGS) infrastructure.
They plan to demonstrate laser communications starting with terrestrial/air-to-ground testing and moving to space-to-ground demonstrations with a satellite equipped with an Astrogate terminal. They also plan to explore an end-to-end service for customers incorporating both the terminal and the downlink technology.
“The value of optical communications is ultimately realized when the space and ground segments work together as one end-to-end link. This partnership brings Astrogate’s optical communication terminals together with Spacebeam’s optical ground infrastructure to work toward that objective,” commented Nitish K. Singh, founder and CEO of Astrogate Labs.
The companies announced the agreement this week during International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2026 in Antalya, Turkey.
