Intellian Technologies and Network Innovations plan to jointly develop and distribute multi-band Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) flyaway terminals for military and government customers under a new strategic partnership announced last week.
This will be Intellian’s first tactical ground WGS flyaway platform. Intellian said these terminals are set to be the first to support simultaneous Mil-X, Mil Ka-band and commercial Ka- and Ku-band connectivity. The platform is designed for multi-band and multi-orbit operations across Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium-Earth Orbit (MEO), Geostationary Orbit (GEO), and Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO), as well as interoperability with emerging satellite networks.
Network Innovations provides managed network services and system integration and has an established military and government market presence. The two companies have worked together for many years and this is a new multi-year agreement to expand their relationship.
Intellian CEO Eric Sung said it marks an expansion of the company’s military-government portfolio. “By combining simultaneous X-band and Military Ka-band capability, access to wider commercial Ka frequencies, and multi-orbit connectivity in a rapidly deployable architecture, we are addressing the increasingly complex communications requirements of modern defense operations. Our goal is to give operators greater flexibility, resilience, and assured connectivity wherever their missions take them,” Sung said in a release.
In March, Intellian previewed it would be moving into WGS flyaway terminals during SATShow Week. Flyaway terminals are meant to be rapidly deployable for forces in the field, to be set up in less than 30 minutes. Intellian also said it plans to expand the platform for government, enterprise, and critical communications applications outside of military.
