Voyager Technologies is investing into AI software company Latent AI in a move to bring edge computing to space.

Latent AI offers both enterprise and defense AI solutions. The companies plan to deliver improved edge intelligence to defense, space, and industrial customers. This could include Voyager’s space-based platforms such as onboard processors and avionic suites and additional hardware programs.

“AI is transforming the edge from a passive collector to an active combat multiplier,” Dylan Taylor, CEO of Voyager Technologies said in a release. “We’re making the leap from merely collecting data at the edge to understanding it instantly, putting mission intelligence where the mission happens in real time.”

Voyager announced the investment on Monday, but did not disclose the amount of the investment.

Latent AI co-founder and CEO Jags Kandasamy said the collaboration between the companies will expand distributed intelligence across hardware platforms and operational domains. “This ecosystem approach means intelligence gathered by a satellite gets instantly processed and acted upon by ground-based systems, while autonomous platforms share what they learn to improve performance across the entire network. We’re moving from isolated AI applications to integrated AI operations,” he wrote.

This year, Voyager has rebranded from Voyager Space to emphasize its defense business, hired new leadership in defense, and went public raising $383 million in an IPO.
