Using Satellite Data to Meet Sustainability Goals
Fred Krupp, president of Canada’s Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), gave a recent TED talk about the organization’s plans to launch a satellite in orbit that will gather data about the impact of methane gas on the planet. MethaneSAT aims to help cut methane emissions 45 percent by 2025. Its data will be available to both government and enterprise customers, measuring methane emissions, identifying problem areas and cost-saving opportunities, and keeping track of industry progress in reaching these goals. MethaneSAT’s primary target seems to be be the oil and gas industry.
