Hydrosat is launching a new thermal imaging product geared toward tactical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) use cases as it plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities in Europe to support sovereign missions. The new, high-resolution mid-wave infrared (MWIR) program is called Nyktòs.

It is designed to complement the longwave infrared (LWIR) technology of its recently announced Osiris constellation. While Osiris is designed for broad-area thermal monitoring across a 340-kilometer swath, the Nyktòs MWIR capability is designed to address smaller thermal features in far greater detail. Hydrosat explained that Osiris and Nyktòs will work together in a combination of monitoring and tasking, with Osiris identifying unusual activity and Nyktòs providing a closer analysis.

“Broad-area thermal monitoring provides the context to identify changes, while high-resolution MWIR allows us to investigate those changes more closely. Our vision is to bring these complementary capabilities into a coherent thermal observation system, helping governments and commercial customers understand what is changing, where it is happening and how it fits into the broader picture,” CTO Scott Soenen commented.

Hydrosat also stated it intends to support sovereign government and allied missions in Europe by establishing a regional presence, technology base, and supply chain relationships, in order to develop novel sovereign thermal capabilities in Europe.  The company is not disclosing where it will increase its presence in Europe but plans to announce that in 2027, a representative told Via Satellite.

Hydrosat is based in Washington D.C. and also has a presence in Luxembourg and The Netherlands.
