The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) has awarded Maxar Intelligence a delivery order under the Luno A program for commercial analytic services.
Maxar said on June 27 the order specifically deals with automated AI/ML-generated object detections over many specified locations at once. Maxar said it will identify classes of aircraft, ships, ground vehicles and railcars to help NGA determine object counts and classification, identify trends and anomalies, and perform spatial and temporal geospatial intelligence analysis.
Maxar will work with Satellogic on this award to take advantage of the capacity and revisit rate of both Maxar and Satellogic’s constellations. This comes after an agreement with Satellogic in December to task the company’s constellation for national security missions.
“This award reflects the power of combining commercial innovation to support national security mission needs,” said Susanne Hake, SVP and general manager of Maxar’s U.S. Government business. “By working together with other industry leaders, we’re enabling a powerful combination of diverse sensor data and advanced analytics to help make smarter, faster decisions.”
Financial terms of the specific order were not disclosed. The full Luno A contract has a $290 million ceiling for all orders in the program.
NGA in September 2024 selected 10 companies to compete for task orders under the Luno A program, which is leveraging technologies like computer vision and other analytics applied to economic, military, and environmental monitoring. This week, BlackSky also announced a task order under the program.
