Cubic Wins US Special Operations Command Satcom Contract

PEO C3T’s PM for Tactical Network equipped the first unit—the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division—in February with the new inflatable satellite communications system known as Transportable Tactical Command Communications. The system, which makes possible expeditionary mission command and situational awareness in the heart of evolving fights, is one of dozens of communication networks, radios, satellite systems and other hardware and software that Thurston helps to oversee as PEO C3T’s chief of staff. The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) awarded Cubic Mission Solutions (CMS) a follow-on, single-award, Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity (ID/IQ) contract with a ceiling of $172 million. The contract is for the delivery of Ground Area Transmit Receive (GATR) inflatable satcom terminals and baseband communications equipment in support of Special Operations Forces (SOF) communications requirements.

The contract consists of five, one-year ordering periods for the procurement of Cubic’s 1.2-meter and 2.4-meter GATR inflatable satcom terminals. Cubic’s technology helps enable data movement as well as the pre-processing of data and sharing of processed information.

“Cubic is an established and trusted partner for USSOCOM, providing special operations forces with leading-edge capabilities that support our customer’s expeditionary and tactical needs,” said Mike Twyman, president of Cubic Missions Solutions. “We are proud to continue our partnership with USSOCOM; this strategic opportunity allows us to continue providing reliable solutions for SOF missions in remote and forward deployed situations.”
