[Satellite TODAY 02-22-10] The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) added two new special item numbers for commercial satellite communications services to Federal Supply Schedule 70 under the $5 billion, 10-year Future Commercial Satellite Communications Services Acquisition (FCSA) contract solicitation, GSA officials announced Feb. 17.
The solicitation includes item numbers for transported capacity (SIN 132-54) and subscription services (SIN 132-55). The transported capacity number covers owning and operating or reselling dedicated bandwidth and power on a communications satellite in any available Comsatcom frequency band. The subscription services solicitation number addresses pre-existing, pre-engineered fixed satellite service and also mobile satellite service capabilities.
The multiple-award schedule and indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity FCSA, a joint venture established in August between the GSA and the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), will replace satellite communications contracts that will expire over the next two-and-a-half years. FCSA is open to defense and civilian agencies as well as state, local and tribal governments; public schools and colleges; and public authorities.
