[Satellite Today 01-26-09] The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have launched the Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite (Gosat) satellite aboard the H-2A launch vehicle from the Tanegashima Space Center, JAXA announced Jan. 23.
The satellite is one of the first satellites in the world to measure greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and methane) from space.
The satellite is a result of co-operation between JAXA, the Japanese National Institute for Environment Studies and the Japanese Ministry of the Environment.
