Microgravity research and manufacturing company Space Tango has hired Sita Sonty as CEO, the company announced Sept. 1. Space Tango works in microgravity applications for hardware, software, materials science, biotech, and medicine, and provides access to microgravity on the International Space Station.

Sonty most recently led the space industry practice for Boston Consulting Group. She has had a long career in the space industry and worked as head of Human Spaceflight Sales at SpaceX, and has worked at Sierra Nevada Corporation, Raytheon, and as a U.S. diplomat.

“I am thrilled to be joining Space Tango at such a dynamic time in the industry, especially given this company’s proven flight payload heritage, dedicated customer base, and cutting-edge commercial use cases, which have the potential to revolutionize medicine and additive manufacturing in space,” Sonty commented.

Sonty is tasked with marketing Space Tango’s automated capabilities that the company says are critical to future manufacturing pipelines in Low-Earth Orbit and beyond.

She succeeds co-founder Twyman Clements, who is now president of the company. Space Tango is headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky.

Sonty has been a guest on Via Satellite’s Space Economy webinar series, hosted by the On Orbit podcast, including a recent discussion on the value of the lunar economy. She also wrote a two-part series on the market for edge computing in space for Via Satellite. Read part one and two here
