SpaceX has now launched more than 10,000 Starlink satellites after a double-header of Starlink launches on Sunday from Florida and California.
On Oct. 19, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 mission from Cape Canaveral in Florida at 1:39 p.m. EDT. It then launched a second Falcon 9 mission less than two hours later from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 3:24 p.m. EDT (12:24 p.m. local time).
Both launches carried 28 Starlink satellites, with Starlink noting it has now passed 10,000 satellites launched in total for the constellation.
SpaceX first launched two prototype Starlink satellites in February 2018, and began to build out the constellation with two launches in 2019.
According to independent astronomer Jonathan McDowell who tracks Starlink satellites, there are currently 8,680 Starlink satellites in orbit.
Starlink provides internet connectivity to more than 7 million subscribers, according to the most recent subscriber numbers released in August.
The service has had a number of brief outages in the past few months, with outages in July, August, and September.
The Starlink constellation is made up of the broadband satellites and more than 650 satellites for its Direct-to-Cell service. Last month, SpaceX filed with the FCC asking to launch 15,000 new satellites for its direct-to-device service that would use mobile satellite service (MSS) spectrum SpaceX purchased from EchoStar.
