[Via Satellite 07-07-2014] Inmarsat and Orbit Communication Systems have entered a Memorandum of Arrangement (MOA) tasking Orbit with building Global Xpress (GX) aviation terminals for the government market. As part of the MOA, Orbit will provide airborne tracking and communication GX antenna terminals for government market prospects such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and fixed and rotary wing platforms. The two companies will work together to increase the uptake of GX among end users.
The first GX satellite, Inmarsat 5, was launched in December 2013 and became commercially available in June 2014. Two other satellites will complete the constellation, along with a potential fourth satellite, which was ordered from Boeing for use as either a spare or a source of incremental capacity.
