[Satellite TODAY 09-26-11] Lockheed Martin Space Systems won an arbitration dispute with operator SES over an antenna anomaly that was discovered on a Lockheed-built commercial telecommunications satellite, the companies confirmed Sept. 23.
SES discovered that the Lockheed A2100 satellite in orbit was unable to receive uplinks at the edge of one of the satellite’s beams and claimed that the defect prevented the satellite from meeting contracted performance specifications.
Lockheed Martin, however, claimed that SES never voiced an intention to use the beam’s uplink capability in the specific manner in which it was used. The court sided with Lockheed and ordered SES to pay its due performance incentive in full.
Neither company would disclose the amount of the incentive.
