[Satellite TODAY 09-12-11] Gilat has rolled out a new Ka-band VSAT terminal that is tailored for the consumer market, supporting high-throughput service speeds up to 20 megabits-per-second, the company announced Sept. 9.
Gilat’s new terminal is based on the company’s SkyEdge 2 VSAT platform and was designed to allow high-speed browsing using advanced web acceleration technologies and to support high-quality voice-over-IP, video, IPTV and next-generation IPv6 networks. Gilat also was selected by SES to deliver its new consumer Ka-band equipment for the operator’s Astra2Connect satellite-based Internet service.
Separately, Canadian manufacturer C-Com Satellite Systems announced its introduction of the iNetVu 985 Ka-band antenna system, which was tested by Gilat for integration with its SkyEdge 2 Ka-band terminals. The iNetVu 985 is a 98 cm Ka-band vehicle-mounted antenna system representing C-Com’s next generation of mobile, auto-deploy antenna systems.
