[Satellite TODAY 08-12-11] Digi International’s ConnectPort X5 R rugged gateway has been certified to use the Iridium satellite network for global, two-way, low-latency data communications, Digi announced Aug. 11.

   The ConnectPort X5 R gateway is a compact tracking and telematics device that incorporates cellular, satellite, GPS, Wi-Fi and vehicle area network wireless technology in a single enclosure. Digi said the solution is ideal for fleet management and asset tracking applications.

   “Digi’s new product leverages our Iridium 9602 short-burst data transceiver technology,” Iridium Vice President and General Manager for Data Services Patrick Shay said in a statement. “Digi’s design ingenuity also leverages the Iridium 9602’s very small form factor and low power draw for an affordable turnkey embedded solution to enable global satellite data connections and its dual-mode solution will provide a standardized data platform for large enterprise customers seeking a seamless worldwide solution for remote asset tracking and monitoring.”
