[Satellite TODAY 04-15-11] The imaging payload for DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-3 satellite passed the critical design review, manufacturer ITT Corp., announced April 14.
DigitalGlobe is developing WorldView-3 under a 10-year, $3.5 billion EnhancedView contract from the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). DigitalGlobe awarded ITT a $120.6 million contract to develop the imaging system. Depending on its final orbit, the satellite’s sensors will be able to acquire imagery between 25 and 41 centimeters resolution. WorldView-3 also will include panchromatic and 8-band multi-spectral imaging sensors.
The WorldView-3 satellite, being built by Ball Aerospace, is scheduled for launch in 2014. Ball and ITT built the three DigitalGlobe satellites currently in orbit.
