[Satellite TODAY 03-03-11] ViaSat has rolled out its ECC66100-series Forward-Error Correction (FEC) core off-the-shelf product for optical transport, ViaSat announced March 2.
The technology was designed to provide cost savings over optical compensation techniques, increase optical channel capacity and extend the range of transmission for optical cables.
“The core is optimized for 100 gigabits-per-second data rates and is scalable to 40 or beyond 100 gigabits-per-second. It is also readily adapted for use with higher order modulations and optimized for low power consumption and latency and is amenable for use with 28 to 65 [nanometer] ASIC processes,” the company said in a statement.
