[Satellite TODAY 02-24-11] Stratos Global rolled out its FBBPlus managed global broadband service for the commercial maritime industry, the company announced Feb. 23.
    The FBBPlus solution aims to offer shipping companies a migration path toward Inmarsat’s Global Xpress 50 Mbps services expected to launch in 2013. The FBBPlus service combines Inmarsat’s FleetBroadband satellite communications service with Ku-band VSAT service, offering a managed data communications capability of up to 25 gigabytes per month for a flat monthly fee.
    Stratos’ first FBBPlus customer is German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, which signed a five-year contract with Stratos to equip the solution on about 40 of Hapag-Lloyd’s vessels.
