[Satellite TODAY 12-14-10] Orbit Showtime Network (OSN), a satellite pay-TV operator in the Middle East, has announced a series of initiatives in 3-D, piracy and HD DVR services launching in the region.
OSN kicked off its plans with an HD and satellite DVR receiver, the OSN Showbox HD, featuring OSN on-demand services. CEO Butorac said the service would be a key part of its strategy to attract a new audience in the Middle East. “We want to be the first in the Middle East to bring 3-D movies to customers. OSN’s 3-D launch will follow the launch of our HD service, which now sees about 5 million viewers accessing content. The launch of these new services could see a significant increase in revenues and subscribers,” he said.
OSN also hopes to eradicate any potential piracy of its offering. In a statement, OSN said that it also has an initiative to roll out a new platform with a secure conditional access system and is deploying new satellite receivers for subscriber.
