[Satellite TODAY 11-26-09] French telecom SFR has selected Eutelsat‘s Tooway broadband service to connect subscribers of SFR’s new Satellite Internet Pack service beyond the range of ADSL coverage, Eutelsat announced Nov. 25.
Satellite Internet Pack was launched using capacity on Eutelsat’s Hot Bird 6 satellite. It will be extended on Eutelsat’s next-generation Ka-Sat satellite, scheduled for launch at the end of 2010. Ka-Sat, with more than 80 beams operating in Ka-band, aims to connect up to two million homes across Europe to broadband access.
"[The contract] consolidates our objective for large-scale development of satellite broadband in the Ka-band using dedicated in-orbit and ground infrastructure offering both compelling prices and speeds to consumers," said Eutelsat CEO Michel de Rosen, in a statement.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
