[Satellite TODAY 08-28-09] TerreStar completed in-orbit testing on the TerreStar-1 satellite, the company announced Aug. 27.
TerreStar-1, built by Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) and launched by Arianespace July 1, is operating normally. The satellite’s 18-meter S-band reflector, designed by Harris Corp. to enable voice, data and video communications to be transmitted to TerreStar’s smartphone network in Canada and the United States, also is working as designed.
“TerreStar-1 has met or exceeded all of its performance metrics,” TerreStar CTO Dennis Matheson said in a statement.
The satellite now enters ground-based beam-forming testing.
