[Satellite TODAY 08-13-09] Intelsat Ltd. reported a 10 percent increase in its 2009 second-quarter revenues at $642.5 million – up from $584.9 million in 2008, the company announced in its financial results, released Aug. 12.
The fixed satellite services satellite operator said that strong demand for communications infrastructure drove the positive results.
Intelsat also lowered its net losses to $32.7 million, from $82 million reported a year ago, and boosted its backlog to $9.5 billion from $8.7 billion at the end of the first quarter in 2009.
Intelsat’s Transponder services saw an aggregate increase of $31.8 million, due to a $19.9 million increase in revenue from network services customers, resulting from new business and strong renewals in Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The operator also saw mobile satellite services increase by $23.8 million, driven by revenues from professional and technical services performed for satellite operators and other satellite-related services customers, the company said.
